I used to work in a factory
Sometime around June, 2015, I was offered the role of machine operator at a seasoning-making company. Around that same time I discovered people were making money online and decided to try my luck.
Moonbitco.in, moonlite.co.in, Bitcoinker, all those ad-clicking websites, etc. Anytime I wasn't at my day job, I was completing low-paying online tasks.
Guess what? Like most Nigerians, I wasn't able to withdraw my "millions" from any of those sites. I was frustrated but it didn't deter me. 2017 came and I got into blogging. Created a fitness Blogger blog and, right off the bat, started publishing ads from Popellerads and Popads.
All this while I was still working as an operator. During my free time, I was either plagiarizing someone's content or spamming facebook. The screenshots below highlight how much I made from publishing ads on my fitness blog - for 2 years.

Between 2019 and early 2020, I ventured into other online businesses which eventually turned out to be burning holes in my pocket rather than get-rich-quick opportunities. I quit my job in February 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. Things got really tough for me. I wasn't making any money, I ended up in a depressed state - it was bad.
It wasn't until August that year that I got the biggest breakthrough of my life. A freelance content writing job from Valnet Inc.

I will never forget that day. It was the happiest day of my life.
Now, just to be clear, besides copying and pasting content on my crappy blog, I had never written content for a business before; local or international. And here I was writing a sample article for Babygaga.com.
They liked the sample and gave me the job; my first freelance content writing gig. I wrote 12 short-form articles for them and was earning around $11 per 250-word article before I blew it. There's this old saying that goes; Old habits never die. Well, my old "plagiarizing" habit cost me this particular gig. One day I got an email from their senior editor.
She told me their plagiarism software had detected that my articles were scoring higher than the allowed limit. Not only did I get kicked out of their team, they also made sure I could not write for any of their other sites (I applied to two in the last four months- I didn't even make it to the 'sample article' stage).
I didn't get another content writing gig until April the next year (2021) and ever since then I've managed to land freelance writing gigs from Compose.ly (yes, that compose.ly), Constant Contact, and a host of other big names both in and outside of the industry.

I know you're probably wondering how I managed to go from plagiarizing people's content to securing high-paying writing jobs in such a short time. Well, the answer is quite simple and it has nothing to do with my content writing skills.
